A tiny courtyard in Ghent has been transformed from a paved patio into a lush urban garden. The house is entirely oriented towards this small retreat, making it a natural extension of the living space on the ground floor. Just six months after planting, bees and butterflies fill the courtyard, while flowers spill over the flagstones and surround the small terrace. In the dense urban setting, the courtyard becomes a small green void — a secluded refuge shaped by drought-tolerant plants that thrive in the heat radiating from the surrounding buildings and walls.
